EC allows lottery for Kharghar Housing project

NAVI MUMBAI: With the green signal given by the state election commission, the deck is cleared for drawing lottery to decide the winners of Valley Shilp Housing scheme launched by CIDCO

CIDCO has floated Valley shilp housing project at sector-36 of Karghar to provide affordable housings to the needy citizens. In the middle of January, CIDCO had called application for 1224 flats built for MIG and HIG families and sold 13535 application forms. But 3315 applicants including 733 HIG applicants and 2582 MIG applicants responded to the call.
What is more interesting is that nobody has responded to buy the flats reserved for the media persons, PAP, CIDCO employees, and elected representatives including MLA and MP. Insiders admitted that the response to the scheme was not up to satisfaction, "We have not received application for 268 flats reserved for the special categories" said a CIDCO insider

There are many elements and reasons behind the lukewarm response. said The site is not easily accessible as it is far away from Karghar railway station and bus depots. Apart from this the property rate was as good as private builders, and more over the Earnest money Deposit was also too high and unaffordable to the MIG.

Since 3315 applicants have shown interest to buy 1224 flats CIDCO had decided to apply lottery system to decide the winners. However the declaration of the Loksabha election and the subsequent enforcement of model code of conduct have raised the concern that it would dampen the prospect of the flat allotment during election time. In an attempt avert the public concern CIDCO appealed to the election commission for permitting to draw the lottery.

Said Chief PRO Dr. Mohan Ninave, "CIDCO had launched the scheme much earlier to the Lok Sabha election. We have convinced the EC that, by any means, the allotment of flats would not be an inducement to the voters. Hence the Election commission has given us green signal to hold the lottery. Accordingly the lottery will be conducted on 24th March in the Agri-Koli hall at Nerul"
