NAVI MUMBAI: Cidco's controller of unauthorized construction (CUC) team has started a demolition drive in Vichumbe village in Panvel taluka to prevent the mushrooming of illegal buildings in Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (Naina) project. These illegal buildings may create obstacles in the planning of infrastructure development in the vicinity of the airport.

Cidco's CUC officer Uttam Yadav said
Our team demolished a four-storey building constructed on a Cidco plot in Vichumbe village.   The illegal structure was built without obtaining a no objection certificate (NOC) from Cidco and the collector. Even the commencement certificate was not obtained by the concerned builder. Also, it could come in the way of an arterial road as per Cidco's planning."

The building had encroached upon around 300 sq m of area. A legal notice was served to the concerned person and construction activity was stopped. But the structure was not razed.

It took around four hours for the Cidco team to raze down the building, for which two JCB machines, a truck and six jeeps were deployed. Twenty labourers hammered down the concrete slabs, while 40 policemen were provided by the Khandeshwar police station for security.
