Navi Mumbai - Smart city, smarter growth

BHUBANESWAR: The fast growing areas of the city like that of Navi Mumbai can be developed as smart city. Modern architects and urban planners feel that the civic bodies and city development authorities should chalk out strategies to develop the components of smart city, which include smart energy, smart water, smart buildings and homes, smart mobility and smart public services.

A smart city allows the city to function with the greatest possible efficiency - no traffic jams, no wasted energy, no dark corners or crimes. For this several factors have to be integrated," said urban planer Piyush Rout.

Giving example of one of the components of smart city, Rout said free Wi-Fi internet facility throughout the city would allow people to work from home, practice energy efficient appliances and develop free Apps for mobile application. "The Wi-Fi facility can not only provide people with the immediate solutions to access data of various service providers but it can also help people download forms, avail birth and death certificates and pay various kinds of bills," Rout said.
