If all goes well, the industrial zone at Kakkanad which comprises of
Smart City, Infopark and KINFRA Export Promotion Industrial Park will
have better connectivity and water supply by mid 2015.
The state government has accorded administrative sanction for projects worth Rs 40 crore for improvement of road and water supply system for the three key projects. The projects are all set to start by March 2014 and are expected to be completed within a period of 15 months.
The government order dated December 9, says that the fund release will be based on actual requirement and tender or e-tender and other formalities shall be followed wherever necessary.
While lauding the announcement, a Smart City official said that the projects were their long pending demand which upon realisation would be a big boost for the development of the industrial region. “When the road becomes a reality it will give good connectivity. The road connects Seaport-Airport road to Smart City and Kinfra Park, and reaches the back side of the Infopark campus. As the connectivity improves, more companies will be ready to start their offices in the city,” he said.
The project proposes a 30-million-litre per day water supply system for Smart city, Infopark and Kinfra Industrial Park and construction of a four-lane (1.5 km) approach road.
The detailed proposal prepared by Kinfra Managing Director was placed before the special working group. The working group approved the proposal on October 29.
“The project will commence by March 1, 2014 and will be completed within a period of 15 months,” the government order said.
It is learnt that the three entities would share 10 mld water each from the proposed water supply project.
“For the project, 40 cents of land would be acquired at a cost of Rs 2 crore and a sub-station would be set up. The cost of water pumping, including laying of pipelines, is estimated at `30 crore,” the order said.
As the Public Works Department is also improving roads in the region, the business area is likely to get all the required facilities by June 2015, sources said.
