The slums located in areas like Limbayat, Bhatar and Udhna are likely to under go re-development first as many known developers are taking keen interest in it.
"I am also checking possibilities to work under this project as private partner," said Sheta.
Under the slum re-development programme, a private developer will have to develop housing for all the slum dwellers at the same spot and provide a minimum accommodation of 25 sq meters of 1 BHK house . He would also have to provide interim accommodation to the slum owner. In return, he would get Floor Space index (FSI) free, either in the same project or any other project chosen by him, equal to the expense incurred by him in the construction of the housing .
"Tenders will be floated for locations where keen interest is shown by the private developers," said Jatin Desai, executive engineer, SMC.
SURAT:
Real estate developers in the city have started the survey of as many
as 80 slums of the 241 identified to be re-developed as a part of Surat

SMC is likely to float tenders for selected slums in the next two months.
"Our members have started the surveys of the locations where they are interested. The places where one community people reside are of high interest as it would be easy to convince all the members to go for re- development," said Velji Sheta, president, Surat Builders Association (SBA) .
